Fedora 16 Verne and Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot | A Difference Between Terrible and Tremendous

Hello Guys,

I am mentioning all bugs and other things as per my view, It has nothing to do with anybody personally and I am sorry if any fedora user dosen’t like this post or get hurt by it.

Again Back with the Post on Both Releases Fedora 16 and Ubuntu 11.10. First of all Starting this post let me tell you all of that I was a Core Fedora and Red Hat Follower, I Didn’t like to use Ubuntu as i was feeling very User Friendly with Fedora till 9 to Fedora 14.

I have also mentioned In Previous Post that Fedora 15 with GNOME 3 Love-lock or BugLock ?? i am huge fedora follower and I was expecting so much with Fedora 16 with Gnome 3 but again majorly disappointed with Fedora 16 with GNOME 3.

I was keenly waiting for Fedora 16 Verne for a great performance and Great functionality and I hope most of the users who doesn’t like fedora 15 they were waiting for Fedora 16 but Fedora 16 came up with More Headache.

In Fedora 16 with Gnome 3 all bugs remain same and I think Fedora done a great Job with Fedora 16 verne is that they have added some more bugs or you can say a Functionality issues.

Now Let me clear My Subject for Terrible and Tremendous, Terrible means ( HORRIBLE, SCARY Fedora 16 Verne ) and Tremendous ( SUPERB and FANTASTIC Ubuntu 11.10 )

Look at Below Points why Fedora 16 Verne with Gnome 3 is TERRIBLE :-

1. First Let me start with Login Screen, On Fedora 16 Login Screen If you want to Login as a root or not listed User You cannot switch to that User By Pressing UP/DOWN Arrow which is the easiest method, If This will not work you can understand How Frustrating it is.

2. After Updated 3 or 4 Packages, If you try to search Application by Pressing ALT + F1, It will takes you to Log Out Screen and Fedora 16 will suggest you to Turn Off Some features but a good thing is that all those features was turn off and still it is suggesting to Turn Off and Crashing GNOME

3. You cannot Assign Shortcut Key with CTRL.

4. On Gnome Panel, There is no option to Show Weekday Month and Year.

5. If you have opened 6 screens and quickly if you want to move to Desktop, Then You cannot Switch to Desktop by Pressing CTRL+ALT+D

6. Wi-Fi Getting disconnected Again and again You have to reboot fedora. ( This may be because of hardware compatibility but i have never faced this From Fedora 10 to 14)

above things are very basic and frequently we work on that and if they are not working then its so frustrating. There are few more things but I dont remeber it. Will keep update it.

Look at Below Topics why Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot is Tremendous :-

1. Fantastic GUI Screen, It attracks you on First Time.

2. A Proper Working of Application Search From Dashboard and Good thing is that It is soo smooth and Fast.

3. A Very User Friendly Interface and Great Alerts with Opened Applications.

4. A Great Software Installer.

5. AAh…. How Can I Forget about Ubuntu One Personal Cloud ? Its Just Superb, No Words to Explain it.

6. Meno Enableing on Dragging Files/Folders, and Very Nice Management of Menu Bar on Mouse Hover.

There are so many more things that i can write about but it will make pages and pages.

One thing i would like to tell that I have now moved to Ubuntu from Now on Its very sad for me to Move but has to as there are no many waste of time to find tricks/tweaks and bug solutions for Fedora.

I Don’t say that this will applicable to all users but I am very sorry for Fedora followers who doesn’t like this post or not agree with me.

I think you are plain wrong about most of your downsides about Fedora 16:

    1.
I don’t know about login to be honest, since I always enable auto login and use my root access via the terminal, but I guess you could say some might be annoyed by this, but I have no idea why, since the root via terminal does the job.

    2.
I don’t think that has anything to do with anything but your hardware. You cannot blame a almost new DE for failing hardware drivers on linux. Come on dude!

    3.
I have assigned several shortcut keys with CTRL, I have no idea what you’re talking about.

    4.
Gnome Panel can be easily tweaked by gnome-tweak-tool which gives you weekday, month and year in the panel. Try searching google if you have a problem with your linux software instead of just ignoring a possible solution.

    5. If you have more than 6 windows open, why the hell would you not be able to use CTRL+ALT+D? I do that all the time on Fedora 16. This is most possible the most insane point as to say why Fedora 16 is bad.

    6.
Once again this has to do with your own hardware and not Fedora 16. I tend to believe you are the guy who just install fresh Linux distro’s and think they work no matter what hardware is used. Think again.

This article is pure rubbish and the difference between F16 and U11.10 really comes down to preferences not missing features or unreliable drivers.
My personal “hardware situation” actually states the opposite of what you are experiencing since Fedora 16 seems rock solid while Ubuntu 11.10 is unstable.

That being said I think you’re plain wrong about Ubuntu 11.10 as well:

    1. Fantastic GUI Screen, It attracks you on First Time.
answer: I don’t like Unity, but I like Gnome 3

    2. A Proper Working of Application Search From Dashboard and Good thing is that It is soo smooth and Fast.
answer: I don’t know what you mean, are you saying that Fedora 16 Gnome 3 isn’t smooth and fast?

    3. A Very User Friendly Interface and Great Alerts with Opened Applications.
answer: User Friendly Interface? I think that is up for discussion any time dude.

    4. A Great Software Installer.
answer: The software installer in U11.10 is just the biggest shit that I have ever used. It is the slowest way to install applications in decades!! While my laptop isn’t that powerful it still takes 20-30 seconds and I’ve got SSD! Comparison with Fedora: Less than 1 second with ordinary HDD.

    5. AAh…. How Can I Forget about Ubuntu One Personal Cloud ? Its Just Superb, No Words to Explain it.
I think it is slow and I prefer to use Dropbox which actually works. I’ve tested Ubuntu One on both Windows, Android and Ubuntu and I must say it sucks big time. Slow uploading and no control over the process. I think they should leave it to Dropbox.

    6. Meno Enableing on Dragging Files/Folders, and Very Nice Management of Menu Bar on Mouse Hover.
    I don’t know what you’re talking about, haha .,-

    Hello,

Thanks for your Comment, Its good to see that Fedora 16 is working fine for you, Right now I am using Fedora 16 as well as Ubuntu 11.10 but Few things which is working awesome in Ubuntu and Same thing is getting Crash in Fedora 16.

I Don’t blame Fedora 16 there may be possibility with Hardware Compatibility but another fact is its working fine with Ubuntu so This is the issue with Fedora 16.

I was huge fan of Fedora but now its 60% and 40%.

    60% Ubuntu Side
    40% Fedora side.

    Hi Buddy,

I have been using Fedora 16 for past few days. Except a few crinkles here and there, I truly feel that its a rock solid OS.

I was initially confused with Gnome 3, but now, I am kinda ok with it.

My kind suggestion to you is try Fedora 16 for a week or two. Its another version of the awesome Linux so may be, a few days down the line you will like both Ubuntu and Fedora 🙂

Not to take away from Oneric’s successes….
In my own experience, I’ve had so many power management and graphics issues with Ubuntu since 11.04 that I’ve now reacquainted myself with RedHat and become quite familiar with FC15 and now FC16 Gnome.
Having said that, I think the addition of Fedora Utilities [ http://fedorautils.sourceforge.net/ ] is essential to enabled and fix the shortcomings I dislike about Gnome3 Shell and give me my Gnome Classic usability without going into GTK3 FallBack mode.

The Fedora Utils achieves this by adding everything from DVD codecs, Font Smoothing and Panel buttons to the handy Gnome-Tweak-Tool application.

Most, if not all aspects of Gnome Shell can be further tweaked with the new “One-Click” Gnome-Shell-Extensions website: https://extensions.gnome.org/

The latest Fedora 16 updates, as of Dec 6th, 2011, imparts many bug fixes and OS overall stability.

I have just installed FC16 alongside Win7 on my new Dell Inspiron 15R i3-2310, and everything works ( including its Wimax combo bluetooth/wifi modem right out of the box.

The New “Ask Fedora” is also available as well::

    enjoy!
