Howto: Clear and Disable Recent History in Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot | Unity | Linux

Hello,

In this Howto You will able to Disable and Clear History from Ubuntu 11.10 Unity Linux.

This post is something like trick and tips, In Ubuntu 11.10 Unity, If you open any document it will logged it to Recent History Item, One day you will realize that there are so may items, some time it not looks good atleast for me it was not good.

So I found a trick to Disable Recent History and I also managed Clear History From Recent History, Now It looks good.

DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Please Perform following steps to Clear and Disable History from Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot.

I have performed this how to for Root user so keep that in mind.

You required “root” or sudo access for command ‘chattr’ to achieve this.

1) To Remove Only Recent History Execute Following Commands :-
root@tejas-barot-linux-ahmedabad: ~: rm -rf ~/.local/share/recently-used.xbel

root@tejas-barot-linux-ahmedabad: ~: touch ~/.local/share/recently-used.xbel

then Log Out and Log In again. If Logout and Login Doesn’t work Reboot.

2) To Remove and Disable Recent History Execute Following Commands :-
root@tejas-barot-linux-ahmedabad: ~: rm -rf ~/.local/share/recently-used.xbel

root@tejas-barot-linux-ahmedabad: ~: touch ~/.local/share/recently-used.xbel

root@tejas-barot-linux-ahmedabad: ~: chattr +i ~/.local/share/recently-used.xbel

then Log Out and Log In again. If Logout and Login Doesn’t work Reboot.

3) To Enable Recent History again, Execute Following command :-

root@tejas-barot-linux-ahmedabad: ~: chattr -i ~/.local/share/recently-used.xbel

Note:- If you are performing this how to other than root user then you need to execute commands with sudo.
