Installation of Ubuntu 8.10

  1. Download your Ubuntu 8.10 CD.You can also order it for No Charge.To Order CD of ubuntu 8.10 then visit this url shipit.ubuntu.com.But shipping can be late or some times you dont get it also.so i prefer download Ubuntu from site.
  2. Setup your First boot device CD-ROM From BIOS.
  3. When it boots successfully from CD.Then you will see below screen first select your language.

  4. If you just want to use Ubuntu as Live CD then Select first option.If you want to install it then click on Install Ubuntu.

  6. This is your first welcome screen for installation. Select your language for Installation then Click FORWARD to continue.

  7. Select your Time Zone and Click FORWARD to Continue.

  8. Its time to select your Keyboard Layout.Select Keyboard Layout and Click FORWARD to continue.

  9. Its starting partition Manager. Wait until Partition Manger is loading.

  10. This is very nice graphical partition manager you can say. I prefer create partition manually so select Manual and click FORWARD to continue. But if you want to make partition automatically then select Guided – entire disk it will create Partition Automatically.

  11. This Screen is guiding you that how to create /boot partition. I enter 200MB size for /boot partition but you can enter size as per your requirement. Then click OK.

  12. This Screen is guiding you that how to create /home partition. I enter 10000MB size for /boot partition but you can enter size as per your requirement. Then Click OK.

  13. This Screen is guiding you that how to create swap partition. Swap partition should be double of your RAM size. Then Click OK.

  14. This Screen is guiding you that how to create / partition. I assign entire unallocated size for root partition. This partition is most important. Then Click OK.

  15. This is your Final Screen when you are done with all partition.

  16. At below screen you have to set your hostname, create user and password for that user. Root log in is not allowed from gui in Ubuntu. If you want that user log in automatically then check Log in Automatically at very lower part of this screen you can see that option. Click FORWARD to Continue.

  17. Below screen show you the summary for installation. Read it carefully once you sure that you done all right in previous steps then click on INSTALL.

  18. Once you click on Install then just sit back and relax.It will start formatting Partition first.

  19. After completes partition formatting. It will Start Installing Ubuntu 8.10 on your system.

  20. Installation Finished now Click on RESTART button to start Ubuntu.

  21. This screen is telling you that remove your media from CD ROM and Press Enter to to Continue.So Remove your media and Press ENTER.

  22. This is how Ubuntu 8.10 Grub look Like. Select 1st Option and Press ENTER to boot Ubuntu.
    Select First Option to boot Your UBUNTU 8.10.

  23. Wait while your Ubuntu 8.10 loads all configuration and take you to the Log in screen.

  24. Great. This is your Log in Screen of Ubuntu 8.10.Enter your Username and password which you created during installation and Press ENTER.(remember root login is not allowed from GUI).

    /boot can be 100 MB
    /home can be 10 GB
    SWAP Size can be double of your RAM.
    / Partition can be all available space. ( I am using this kind of table for partitioning you can do as you want.)

    It’s Not llegal to install MS Office in Ubuntu. You can use Openoffice its nice. Better than M$ Office.

    Want to know how to calculate 1)/boot Partition 2) /home partition 3)Swap Partition 4)root partition.

    If i have 40gb hard disk. tell me how to calculate and install. also how to install MS Office in ubuntu.
