How To: Upgrade Ubuntu 12.04 to Ubuntu 12.10 | Precise Pangolin to Quantal Quetzal

Hello,

Tested Ubuntu 12.10 and After few updates i can say that it is going good. Now it looks very nice and very smooth.

In this How To, I will show you steps to Upgrade Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin to Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal.

Here you will see a Upgrade Process from GUI, Follow Just few steps and Your upgrade will start immediately.

Follow the below steps to Upgrade from Ubuntu 12.04 to Ubuntu 12.10 :-

##> Things to consider

=> Internect Connection Needed Until it finishes Upgradation.

=> Make sure you have taken backup of all critical Data.

=> Try at your own risk.

1. Open Terminal and Execute Following command to open Update Manager, You need to be root or sudo privilege user :-

linux-forums@tejas-barot-linux-ahmedabad :~$ sudo update-manager

2. Now Click on “Settings”, Look at the Attached screenshot Below :-

3. In Selection of “Notify me of a new Ubuntu version:” select “For Any Version”, Below is the screenshot for the same :-

4. Make sure you settings look like below ScreenShot :-

5. Now click on “Check” to Refresh Update Window, Wait for a While until it finishes Update Procedure :-

6. Once Update Procedure Finish you will get a Notification for New Available Version and Then click on “Upgrade”, Please have a look at below screen shot :-

7. Once you click on Upgrade You will be prompted to Release notes and Again you have to click on Upgrade at that Screen too, below Screen shot will explain you :-

8. That’s It. Don’t Disconnect Internet Connection and Just Wait for Up-gradation to Finish and You are done. and You will be Upgraded to Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal.

Howto: Hide / Disable Remote Login Option from Login Screen Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal | 13.04 | 13.10

Just Install Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal and Feel to share this how to very quickly with all of you guys.

This Howto Will work for Ubuntu 13.04  and Ubuntu 13.10.

This post will guide you How to Hide Users List from Login Screen in Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal and you can use the same with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin.

There was window called “Remote Login” which gives you facilitiy to login with Online Account. Same like me few users will never wants this option so if they want to disable it for those i have shared this howto.

If you have the same problem or confusion this post is your friend.

DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.

1) You have to be root to perform this how-to.
If you are not root then be root by executing following command :-
ubuntu-11.10@tejas-barot-linux-ahmedabad:~$ sudo su – ( Single Hyphen )

2) First of all Please take backup of original file, execute following command :-
root@tejas-barot-linux-ahmedabad:~# cp -p /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.orig

3) Now Open /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf, Execute Following command :-
root@tejas-barot-linux-ahmedabad:~# vi /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

4)Now Please enter following line to [SeatDefaults] Selection:-

greeter-show-remote-login=false

For Example your /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf should look like below :-
[SeatDefaults]
greeter-session=unity-greeter
user-session=ubuntu
greeter-show-remote-login=false

Now Save and Exit from file. ( ESC and :wq )

5) Now reboot Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal/Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin, You will not able to see any user on Login screen/Window
